What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. When cemented into place, the crown fully encases the visible part of the tooth. Its tooth-shaped appearance allows it to blend fluidly with the other natural teeth in the mouth.
Why is a Crown Needed?
There are a variety of reasons why a dental crown may be needed. Some of the situations include the following:
- Protecting a cracked tooth from further cracking or even breaking
- To restore a tooth that is already broken or has been worn down
- To replace a missing tooth with a bridge
- To cover a dental implant
Dr. Kinizsi is very experienced in placing crowns and bridges. Dental crowns are a common and effective way to provide strength to the tooth and prevent future loss of the tooth. Crowns are often recommended for a cracked or fractured tooth, and after a root canal has been completed. The crown will provide strength to the tooth and prevent possible loss of the tooth. Crowns can also be used when patients are unhappy with the appearance of a tooth because of discolouration or poor enamel.
Due to our fully digital equipment, in qualified cases, some crowns can be completed in the same day in our office lab.
